Position Title Cosmetology Instructor (Part-Time)
General Function

Lenoir Community College is a comprehensive institution which places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. Continuing Education Instructors are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the college: mastery of subject, teaching performance, and evaluation of student learning. License and experience as a Nail Technician/Cosmetologist and a NC Cosmetology Instructor credential is needed for this instructor to teach lessons and labs on client services for manicures and cosmetology services according to NC Cosmetology Boards guidelines.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

I. Mastery of Subject Matter
• Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline
• Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline
• Connect their subject matter with related fields
• Stay current in their subject matter through professional development, through involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conference or workshops
• Use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate

II. Teaching Performance
• Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning. This includes lesson plans for each class meeting
• Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
• Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students needs
• Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, tele-course, interactive technology, when appropriate
• Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
• Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
• Maintain accurate student rosters and attendance

III. Evaluation of Student Learning
• Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
• Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
• Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines
• Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances

IV. Conducts Laboratory/Clinic/Practicum Activities
• Assigns laboratory activities that coincide with the material presented in lecture sessions as appropriate
• Presides over all scheduled laboratory activities and hours
• Ensures that time is spent productively by students working on appropriate assignments
• Provides the opportunity for individual student attention
• Evaluates students and provides them specific feedback
• Provides additional assignments/projects as student progress dictates
• Orders supplies as needed by following school procedure
• Assists in maintaining a clean lab and clean equipment
• Conducts initial troubleshooting measures on equipment and promptly label and reports all equipment in need of repair
• Provides adequate safety measures for


•NC Cosmetology Instructor License required
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
• Applicant should have at least two years of work experience in the cosmetology field
• One year of teaching experience at a community college or university preferred
• Working knowledge of federal/state government education regulations

Salary Range $25-$30 per hour
